I wish Heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again.Thought of you today, but that is nothing new. Thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part. God has you in his arms. I have you in my heart.
On December 15th 2005, I lost a best friend.
She crossed my mind today.
She was all of maybe 5 feet tall
a full blooded Irish gal with
RED hair and freckles
and a ton of spunk!
We had met in an odd way...
back in 1997 when I lived with my then
new boyfriend in Modesto
He had gone out with his work buddy, Doug.
Well that night, he didnt come home.
At about 3am, I got a call.
The woman on the other line asked for me
and I confirmed that she was speaking with her...
"You dont know me, but Im Doug's girlfriend and I have your man here passed out on my couch"
"I didnt want you to worry so I got your number out of his phone"
I thanked her and remained upset at him for getting that drunk!
We would always joke about that night!
We became close and a couple years later both got pregnant; me with my 2nd
her with her first. We were 3 1/2 months apart.
I had my son, she had her daughter.
Through the years, we would visit and keep in touch as we moved
a couple of hours away. Everytime we moved, Wendy and Doug were
there to help, no questions asked.
We would joke, drink, eat, laugh, watch the kids play,
go for a walk, hit up the store..
Wendy was a diabetic. She controlled it well.
She did slip into a coma once thru the years I knew her..
but was always a fighter.
The last time I saw Wendy was at my wedding in June of 2005.
We hadent spoke in a few months so I was unaware that
she had lost her job and her and Doug decided to
end their relationship.
But for me, she came with Doug and Kalani
as a family to celebrate with us.
(Kalani in the red dress dancing at the reception)
I got the call that morning of the 16th...
I had missed Dougs call the day before...
I wish I handnt. Not that it would have mattered.
Just been another day of greiving.
Apparently Wendy got sick with a fever and flu like symptoms.
Supposidly was having trouble getting her diabetic meds
since she lost her job and insurance.
She went to a free clinic to get medical care...
but because she had developed a rash
they turned her away.
Said to come back once the rash cleared up.
Wendy Lema died that night.
Her daughter, Kalani, found her on the couch.
Rest in Peace Wendy Angel
(I dont have pics to post because Im on my work computer but i'll post a pic of Wendy this weekend)
Kalani 10 yrs old
Kalani is getting so big, and even though I know she has a big family
now, she still misses her mama but knows mama's
her guardian angel.
We miss you too Wendy!
Until we meet beyond the gates.....
